Die Hard 4 Hacker“Boeing’s New 787 May Be Vulnerable to Hacker Attack.” That’s the headline that appeared in various media on January 5, 2008. The article itself comes from the Federal Aviation Administration claims, or the U.S. aviation business entity. How a plane – which is generally hijacked by terrorists – could is now being attacked by hackers who attack computer normally?

The answer: “Everything is computer nowadays,” said Eugene Kaspersky, CEO and founder of Kaspersky internet Security Company in Jakarta, Thursday (8 / 10). Everything is computer today. He pointed out, ranging from mobile phones, cars, to refrigerators and coffee machines have been equipped with similar operating system on the computer. Some are connected to the internet so it can be accessed remotely.

So when I called the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft attacked a potential hacker, it’s not a story without foundation. This aircraft, the FAA report, called a computer network that allows passengers to “experts” access control system aircraft.

Initially, the computer network in the passenger seat was designed to provide Internet access throughout the journey. However, these networks are connected to the aircraft control systems and navigation and communication systems. So the entrance was created for the passengers to take control of the aircraft. Regarding the possibility that, Boeing has designed a solution to a hacker attack through the network is not possible.

According to Kaspersky, malware or malicious software that used to only grow in the PC world has since some time ago appeared in a variety of mobile devices, such as mobile phones. “In Russia, one could even create malware to enter the bank’s network, then change the value of the ruble exchange rate becomes much higher. The dollar was then exchanged into rubles and big profit,” he says.

Indeed, malware, which then leads on Cybercrime, has become a business. Business lucrative and attractive to many people because it produces huge money, the easy way. Therefore not easy to fight this type of crime.

Not Again Network IT

It is said Kaspersky, interaction is possible in web 2.0, also makes the system much more open to outsiders. Users who currently own may conduct transactions in various systems, indirectly making the system accessible to others. No wonder online banking system is one of the coveted cyberspace criminals.

Another thing that might happen is extortion by threatening non-IT installation. In January of 2008, the U.S. intelligence agency, the CIA, after hackers who threaten to sabotage the flow of electricity through its network that connects the Internet when not provided a ransom for him. “That may happen. Even the hackers in the Ukraine could be deadly Internet,” said Kaspersky.

Story can be seen more clearly in the movie Die Hard 4 starring Bruce Willis, where a group of criminals disrupt computer systems major cities in the U.S., including the government network. The goal may vary, a ransom, stealing state money, or subvert the government. “In the future, such events could actually happen.”

The first cyber crime is limited to the computer environment, is now threatening widespread non-IT environment. And this could not be separated from technological developments that made all things evolve into a computer.

In his joke, Kaspersky throw the question, “What’s the difference smartphone with a computer?” The answer is, “Smartphone does not use a mouse.” This means that almost no different smartphone with your computer, as well as other goods in the future. So beware the sophisticated stuff you, because from where an attack could enter.

Acer Aspire TimelineAfter a while trying out 13-inch version (June 2009), this time we had the opportunity to test the Timeline 14-inch version has the official name of Acer Aspire 4810T Timeline. Just to remind, Timeline is the latest notebook series from Acer which factors promote a thin, lightweight, and the duration of the battery as the main attraction. But unlike Adamo Dell or Apple Macbook Air, Acer Timeline priced at affordable.

Our test unit, for example (DELL 4810T Timeline 944G50Mn version), sell at a price of U.S. $ 1099. Specifications, Intel Centrino Duo processor SU9400 (dual core, 1.4 GHz), Memory DDR3-1066 4GB, and 500GB hard drive. There are also less expensive version (4810T-352G32Mn) at a price of U.S. $ 789 with an Intel Core 2 Solo U3500 (single core, 1.4 GHz), DDR3 2GB memory and 320GB hard drive.

The price above includes Windows Vista Home Premium and a row of typical notebook features, such as WiFi a / g / n, Bluetooth, card reader, and webcam. But the most special features in this notebook is probably the presence of an internal DVD Writer. Why, it’s not there? For ordinary notebook, is yes. However, for thin and light notebook, these facilities are rare. Of all the thin notebooks we’ve tested (Acer Timeline 13-inch version, MSI X340 X-Slim, dv2 HP Pavilion, Dell Adamo, and Macbook Air), which has no internal optical devices.

Despite of having optical devices, thinness of this notebook to stay awake. You may need to see the photos below to see how thin this notebook. To be sure, our measurements show in a closed condition Timeline 4810T thickness of no more than 3 cm. Its own weight to touch the number 2 kg, or slightly higher than the lightest notebook referred to above. But given the 14-inch notebooks typically weigh over 2 kg, 4810T Timeline remain relatively mild when compared to the same class notebook.

The main cause of why this notebook is the processor can be thin and refrigeration systems. Processor using the Intel Core 2 Duo processor U9400 that includes CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage), so has power consumption and heat output is very minimal. This still added a special cooling system known as Laminar Wall Jet Technology that has been widely used in aircraft engine cooling system. The core of this technology is to make the hot air out in a linear and not turbulent as ever, so the hot air directly out without causing excessive heat in the notebook casing.

Use of power efficient processors also affects battery life. When playing an HD video with the maximum level of brightness, this notebook can last up to 3 hours more. The times are somewhat special because during our testing history, no notebooks that have lasted that long. Moreover, our tests involving HD video playback processor intensive burden. If the standards used for the activity, it must record the time any longer.

About performance, this notebook is not special. Despite having two cores, the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 used in this notebook is power efficient processor with 1.4 GHz speed alone. If compared Gateway TC7806n, we can see the difference in performance is quite far (see table). However, if compared to other thin notebooks like the HP Pavilion dv2, slightly better performance.

When he tried 13-inch version first, we have already mentioned the potential of Acer products under Timeline; and testing time as confirming this view. We really liked the combination of Acer offered Timeline: light, thin, and affordable prices. Problem is normal performance, yet not all people need to prime performance. Most of us already have enough portable notebook and a long breath, and given that this Timeline Acer.

Test Results

To be clearer, we compare the performance of Acer 944G50Mn Timeline-4810T with HP Pavilion notebook dv2 as vice TC7806n thin and Gateway as a standard notebook. The result, Acer Timeline is in the middle of the second notebook. That is, Timeline 4810T has good performance as a light notebook, but still less than the notebook-based Intel Core 2 Duo normal.
